Six Things to Know About LED Drivers When Choosing LED High Bay Lighting

You need to select an appropriate LED driver when you're on the market for an LED high bay light. There are a few things you should be aware of regarding LED drivers before selecting one for your fixture. The following are six things to know about LED drivers when choosing LED high bay lighting.

1. There are two main types of LED drivers.

It's important to know what the two types of LED drivers are and to understand some basic differences between them. LED drivers are either low voltage DC input drivers or high voltage AC input drivers. High voltage drivers are also known as off-line drivers.

In general, low voltage drivers are a good option for LED high bay lights because of their efficiency and dependability. However, larger high bay lighting fixtures with greater power consumption often require a high voltage AC driver.

2. Drive current is a key factor when selecting an LED driver.

You need to choose whether you want a driver with a higher or lower drive current. Higher drive currents will provide more light, but they will also consume more power and require higher wattage. To choose the right drive current, look into the specifications of your LED high bay light. The specifications should detail a recommended current for that particular light.

3. An LED driver can run a limited number of LEDs.

You need to look into the maximum output voltage of various driver options. If you're looking to run multiple LED lights from one driver, it's important to know that the number of LEDs that can be run from a driver is limited by voltage. Make sure your driver has adequate voltage to run the number of LED lights you're interested in hooking up for your high bay lighting fixture.

4. If your LED high bay light has a dimming feature, you need to choose an appropriate driver.

You can't run a dimming feature on your LED high bay light if you haven't chosen a driver with dimming capabilities. Make sure that the driver you choose for your LED high bay light is capable of handling dimming equipment if you need your high bay lighting fixture to connect with a dimmer.

5. The IP rating of a driver determines environmental safety.

You need to select a driver and LED high bay light fixture that are safe for the environment in which they will be used. The IP rating of a driver is an indication of how safe and protective the enclosure on the driver is. IP ratings indicate both the protection offered against solid objects as well as moisture exposure.

6. LED drivers should have an efficiency rating.

Your LED high bay light is going to consume power and increase utility costs for you. It's therefore in your best interests to invest in an efficient driver. LED drivers should have an efficiency rating that is a percentage. UL Class 1 drivers are a type of LED driver that typically offers high-efficiency ratings.

Energy: It Literally Makes the World Go 'Round Energy makes the world go 'round, and in more ways than one! Kinetic energy and gravitational energy are literally responsible for the motion of the earth through space. In a less literal sense, we humans could not live the way we do without energy. We rely on electricity to power everything from our washing machines to our air conditioners. That energy can come from a number of sources, such as solar power or natural gas, but it is energy nonetheless. Show energy some appreciation by reading the articles on this website and expanding your own knowledge on the topic. You'll look at outlets a whole lot differently soon.
